This project is a large-scale LEGO sculpture representing the city of Thessaloniki. Commissioned for a toy shop located on Aristotelous Street, the installation occupies a prominent position at the shop’s entrance, visible to pedestrians passing by. With dimensions of 6 meters in length and 2 meters in width, the sculpture was meticulously constructed using over 30,000 LEGO pieces.
The design process incorporated the use of projection mapping to accurately visualize and plan the composition of the sculpture. This technique enabled precise alignment and arrangement of the LEGO elements, ensuring that the final structure captured the intricate details and architectural essence of Thessaloniki. Projection mapping facilitated the integration of various urban elements and landmarks into the sculpture, offering a high level of accuracy in the representation.
The assembly required careful planning and execution, balancing structural integrity with visual fidelity. A modular construction approach was employed, allowing the sculpture to be built in sections that were later combined into the full structure. This method provided flexibility during the assembly process and ensured ease of transport and installation.
This sculpture not only serves as a striking visual centerpiece for the toy shop but also acts as a celebration of Thessaloniki’s urban identity, merging playful creativity with technical precision in its execution.
